Why does a paper cup machine blank feeder jam repeatedly?

Repeat jams usually trace to one of four roots: stock variation, magazine loading geometry, separation force, or feed timing. Stock that varies in thickness or curl changes how blanks separate; a magazine that is not square to the feed path changes how they present; separation force that is too high marks the blank while too low lets two travel together; and timing that drifted lets the feeder act while the die is not ready. Isolating which root is present is faster than adjusting several controls at once, because each root has a distinctive pattern.

What stock properties affect blank feeding?

Thickness, stiffness, coating and curl are the four that matter most. Thickness and stiffness set how much force is needed to separate one blank from the stack; coating friction decides whether adjacent blanks slip apart cleanly or cling; and curl, especially from moisture change, decides whether a blank presents flat to the forming position. A feeder tuned for one supplier's stock can misbehave on another's without any machine setting being wrong, which is why the acceptance test should run on the buyer's own material.

How should feeder reliability be measured before acceptance?

Count jams per thousand blanks over a full shift at production speed, on the buyer's own stock, and record the conditions each time one occurs. Ask the supplier for the jam rate the feeder is designed to achieve and the conditions under which it is measured, then compare. A short demonstration at reduced speed says little about a feeder, because most jam mechanisms only appear when the machine is running at the rate the plant intends to use.
