How fast does a paper lid machine run?

A single-lane paper lid machine typically produces 150 to 250 flat lids per minute and 80 to 150 dome lids per minute, because the dome draw and the deeper curl take longer than a flat lid cycle. High-speed rotary designs push flat lids past 300 per minute and dome lids toward 200. Ask for the rate at your lid diameter and dome height, since both increase cycle time and reduce output — a headline figure quoted on a small flat lid tells you nothing about a deep dome.

What keeps a snap-fit paper lid from popping off?

Retention comes from the interference between the lid groove and the container rim, not from lid thickness. Specify the groove depth and the rim diameter as a matched pair with a defined interference range in millimeters, then verify retention by filling a container, seating the lid, and lifting by the lid alone. A lid that fits one cup mold and not another has an uncontrolled interference range — test across every mold on the line before committing volume.

Why does a paper lid rim crack during curling?

Rim cracks come from board that is too dry, caliper that is too heavy for the curl radius, or a curl roll set too tight in a single pass. Condition the board to a controlled moisture window, use two-stage curling for small radii, and match board caliper to the curl design. A curl that looks clean on a bench sample but cracks on the machine is a process-window problem, and the fix is a moisture spec and a curl-roll adjustment, not a different supplier.

What board caliper should paper lids use?

What is the difference between flat lids and dome lids in production?

Dome machines must control dome depth and draw speed separately to hold consistent dome height, which keeps lid stacks level and lids latching evenly. How should a buyer test paper lid retention before ordering?

Run five checks: a lift test on a filled container lifted by the lid alone with a gentle shake; a 10-minute hot-drink steam test watching the seam for lifting; a mold sweep across cups from every mold on the line; a measurement of the actual groove-to-rim interference in millimeters; and a repeat-seat test that unseats and reseats three times. Any release, lift, or drift is a fail. A lid that only holds on the first seating will fail in real service.
