How do you level a paper container machine during installation?
Level the machine in both horizontal axes at the same foot positions each time, using a calibrated precision or electronic level rather than a builder's spirit level. Record a reading at every foot against a named datum so a later measurement is comparable, check twist across the diagonals, and confirm that mated stations such as feed and forming agree in height and line with the machine drawing. Record anchor pre-load per anchor, then re-measure after the first production week, because a floor that settles under load is the most common cause of a line that was level on day one.
What leveling tolerance should a paper machine hold?
The tolerance is the figure written on the machine's general arrangement or installation drawing, read in the unit the manufacturer used rather than converted loosely. Does the foundation need to be checked before the machine arrives?

Who is responsible for leveling, the supplier or the buyer?
Split the responsibility explicitly in the purchase order: the supplier's installation team sets and records level and alignment, while the buyer provides a floor that meets the drawing, utilities at the stated interface points, and safe access for the work. The buyer's engineer or a third-party inspector witnesses and countersigns the readings. Where the buyer prepares the foundation and the supplier sets the machine, the handover point between the two must be written into the order, because that boundary is where arguments start when a defect appears later in production.
Should level be re-checked after production starts?
Yes. Re-measure with the same instrument at the same foot positions after the first week of production, and again after any event that changes the load path, such as moving adjacent equipment, re-shimming a foot or re-anchoring. The reason is that soft or uneven floors compress under sustained load, and the first visible symptom is usually a quality drift at the forming, transfer or sealing station rather than an obvious tilt. A written re-check converts a slow, hard-to-attribute defect into a scheduled maintenance item with a known cause.
What records should be kept after installation and leveling?
Keep six: the foundation check sheet with measured values, the leveling record with instrument, datum and readings, the alignment verification between coupled stations, the anchor torque schedule, the utility interface confirmation, and the first-week re-check. Each should name the instrument and its calibration status and carry a revision field, so that a re-shimmed or relocated machine revises the history instead of erasing it.
